phpFreeChat is a free, simple to install, fast, customizable and multi languages chat that uses a simple filesystem for message and nickname storage. It uses AJAX to smoothly refresh (no flicker) and display the chat zone and the nickname zone. It supports multi-rooms (/join), private messages, moderation (/kick, /ban), customized themes based on CSS and plugins systems that allows you to write your own storage routines (ex: Mysql, IRC backends …), and you own chat commands !

Release 1.2 - security hole in phpfreechat

The 1.2 version is released. It fixes a major security hole in phpfreechat. Malicious users were able to spy and take control on other chatters sessions. We highly recommend to upgrade to this version.
In addition, this release fixes few minor bugs.

Release 1.1

The 1.1 version is released. The nickmeta parameter now supports raw html, it will satisfy all the developers who want to quickly add complex data in the user profile box. A new dyn_params parameter makes possible to disable caching on the parameters you want. Finally the refresh_delay_steps parameter has been added to dynamically adjust the chat refresh speed depending on the chat activity: the more the chat is active, the more it is responsive. This version also fixes lot of bugs and adds new translations. My last words are : many thanks to all the contributors !

Website update

The facts: phpfreechat lacks in documentation and contributors are ready to help to improve the documentation. So we need a easy and collaborative tool to edit the doc. This is why a wiki has been installed on the website.
The wiki authentication is directly connected to our punbb forum, so to edit the wiki pages you only need a forum account. Everybody is welcomed to contribute!

New section: parameters list

In this section you will find the exhaustive parameter list supported by latest version of phpfreechat. The page is built dynamically from the src/pfcglobalconfig.class.php file so no problem this page is up to date!

New website design

As you can see the website design changed a bit. It has been developed using widgets from the Pxxo php library. The new logo has been designed by Micropolia SARL. Many thanks to them !

Release 1.0-final

September 21, 2007
The 1.0-final version is finally released! This is the beginning of the new stable branch so 0.x branch will not be supported anymore by the phpfreechat team. In this release we did not add a lot of new features compared to the last beta release but we fixed major bugs and security isues. Moreover, i would like to give a big thanks to all the phpfreechat contributors and especially to King Moonraiser for his rigorous work these last weeks on the file corruption problem and on the user interface fixes.
